Despite being one of the oldest forms of marketing, email marketing is still one of the most effective ways of generating sales/ clients in 2025.
Seen the countless websites that ask you to subscribe to a newsletter?
That's not for no reason, quite frankly they make a killing from it. However, if you've ever tried starting up a newsletter, you've probably realised it's not a magic button you can press to get more sales.
This article will go over everything you need to know to have a successful email marketing campaign.
Getting Traffic
The first step is getting people signed up to your newsletter - if you've got a list of customers that'll be quite easy.
If you don't have a huge list of past clientele, you should work to get visitors on your website or views on your social pages.
I'm not going to go into detail on how you can do that, as it's better if you check out our other resources here.
Selling Too Early And Too Fast
One of the biggest mistakes business owners make is going in fast and blasting people with a bunch of promotional offers and trying to get people to convert.
You might get a few sales but the likelihood is you'll burn through your email list as one by one everyone unsubscribes.
So what should you do instead?
It's all good and well me telling you what not to do, but what should you do?
We need to focus on trust.
Think about a customer's journey to signing up to your newsletter, they've either agreed to join or clicked the link on your website.
Once they join they'll be tentative, no one wants to receive a bunch of spam, so you need to prove yourself and make them realise it's worthwhile to check the emails you send them.
So how do you send emails that are worthwhile?
The first thing you want to do is provide value, you want people to read an email from you and think to themselves "ooo that was good, wonder what their other emails will be like?"
Best way to do that is by providing some useful insights, so if you're a builder you might want to write an email about "the top 5 things you need to know before getting a kitchen extension'
From there, you can start subtly dropping hints for people to get in contact with you, "if you'd like to get a quote for a kitchen extension, you can get one for free here"
This way you establish yourself as someone trustworthy and you can move onto the harder selling later.
You Need To Blast More
We've established what you want to post but here's where we come to the second most common mistake people make with their email marketing.
You know what people want to see, but people get this idea in their head that if they email more than once every 11 working days people will find them annoying.
Now in some part that's true, if you send out an email saying "buy now 10% off" every 30 minutes people will start to get annoyed.
On the flip side, you're sitting on a goldmine and you don't want to miss that opportunity.
If you're posting content people actually want to see, like free insights, guides and occasional promotions you should really be posting every day, because let's be real, most of us barely if ever actually go through our personal email.
That's why it's more important than ever to be sending out a high volume of emails, you want to increase the chance of people recognising you in their inbox and giving you a few minutes to read what you've sent them.
With this you should be able to start posting some serious emails, if you'd like us to give you personalised advice on how email marketing could work for your business, you can get in contact with us here.
Otherwise, bye for now.
